The state of California officially recognizes September 20th as California Surfing Day. It celebrates “the California surfing lifestyle, and commends all those who honor the history, culture, and future of surfing, the great sport of surfing, and the protection of our beach and ocean environments, while supporting and educating our future surfers, encourages our potential surfing Olympians to work diligently, and encourages all Californians to enjoy California Surfing Day”.

10 Things to Do on CA Surfing Day if You Are Not a Surfer

1. Go to the beach – relax with friends, go in the ocean, participate in beach clean up, take a surf lesson…

2. Go to a popular surf break & watch surfers ride waves.

3. Check out a Surf Museum (Santa Cruz, Huntington Beach, Oceanside, & San Clemente).

4. Watch You Tube videos of surfing. Surfing is the official sport of California.

5. Donate to ocean conservation nonprofits.

6. Listen to ocean inspired music – IZ, Michael Franti, Beach Boys, ocean waves….

7. Check out Pinterest – surfing, surfing photography, Healthy Oceans Healthy People…

8. Read The Surfers Journal, surf mags or surf inspired books – Surfers Code, Duke…
